A Light Discussion on Colour
On this grey spring day – when the sun is shy but trying to shine its healing light on us after an untimely winter week – I thought about bringing some colour to remind us of what Nature has in store for us soon, very soon. The sunny and warmer days bring back the flowers, the green, a colour explosion around us and upon us, reflected also on our happier and brighter clothing.
The omnipresence of these colourful surroundings has a huge impact on our mood, we tend to be happier, more optimistic, more open, and maybe even better persons. Crazy effect some degrees and tones can have upon us rational beings, isn’t it? There is much more to colour than most of us could ever imagine!
Black and white is my passion and it can infuse an image with emotions, IF done right. But colour has its role in photography and again – if used intentionally – can make a good photo great. A person can spend years learning the theory behind the psychology of colours and their effects on our brains and hearts and still not know enough. And this is delicious! There is so much room to experiment, so many different feelings and results that a simple play of colours can bring.

I love to play with colours, like on this portrait of the virtuous Rodrigo Botter Maio, a Brazilian musician and great Jazz player during a pre-pandemic show of the fantastic Jazz Via Brasil Group at the surprising and cosy Galotti Musiklab & Klub in Zürich. The ambience is amazing and the group made the audience glow with their performance. I can barely wait to be able to register such moments when we are allowed and vaccinated.
Today is one day closer to that reality than yesterday!

An diesem grauen Tag, während das Sonnenlicht noch nicht ganz durch die Wolken brechen schafft, dachte ich an ein wenig Farbe hierzubringen, damit können wir uns erinnern, um was bald kommt! Die sonnigen und wärmeren Tage bringen Blumen, grün und ein Farbexplosion dazu, und das betrifft uns alle!
Die überall Präsenz von Farben hat eine stärke Ausdruck, wir werden normallerweise mehr optimistisch, froh und vielleicht eben bessere Personen. Es ist verrückt zu denken, dass Farben diese rationalen Menschen so ändern können, oder?
Schwarz und weiss ist mir sehr beliebt, es kann Bilder mit Emotionen erfüllen, wenn richtig gemacht. Aber Farben können es auch, nochmals wenn man sie gut plant und benutzt. Man kann lebenslang die Farbetheorie lernen und doch zu wenig wissen, und das mach Spass! Es gibt viel Raum zu experimentieren, Gefühle mischen, konfrontieren und trösten.

Ich mag dieses Spiel von Farben, wie dieses Bild zeigt. Es war eine vor-der-Pandemie Show mit Rodrigo Botter Maio, ein Musiker aus Brasilien, der in CH lebt und die fantastische Jazz Via Brasil Group führt. Die Show fand sich in Galotti Musiklab & Klub in Zürich statt, ein überraschender Ort. Ich kann kaum warten, es nochmals machen zu dürfen!

Nesse dia ainda nublado e frio de primavera aqui no hemisfério norte, pensei em colocar alguma cor aqui no feed para pensar no que a Natureza tem reservado para nós nos próximos dias e semanas. Os dias ensolarados e cada vez mais quentes trarão flores, um tom inexplicável de verde e uma explosão de cores por todos os lados.
As cores onipresentes têm um grande impacto no nosso humor, tendemos a ficar mais felizes, otimistas, mais abertos e talvez até mesmo nos transformemos em pessoas melhores. É maluco o efeito que uns poucos graus na temperatura e as cores podem causar em nós, seres “racionais”, não?
Preto e branco na fotografia é minha paixão, isso traz emoções intensas para as imagens, se for feito corretamente. As cores também podem ter fortes impactos, se usadas com intenção e conhecimento. É possível estudar teoria das cores e seus impactos psicológicos por anos e ainda ser um iniciante no assunto! E isso é uma delícia, há tanto a experimentar e tantas possibilidades de cores e combinações, falta tempo em uma vida inteira para explorar o assunto em profundidade.
