November brings crisp, chilly air and also our last “standard” Free Photo Walk of the year. As the sun set and the city lights began to twinkle, we gathered at 18:30 and had already a good time chatting and getting to know some new photo-pals. As the bells announced 19:00, we took the traditional group photo and started the fun around the tiny market in front of the Fraumünster church. Read on to see the photo gallery in this post!
Warm Greetings on a Cold Night
We had eight models confirmed for the event, but the cold – be it health or climate – took some away and only two could make it. The best two, of course 🤍! However, the “Holi spirit” stole the spotlight, Holi is one of our photographers and came dressed as Santa Claus. His amazing idea and energy were again sensational, and everyone, including many people outside the group, wanted to photograph him. I want to take a moment to thank these 3 models who braved the cold to participate in the photo walk and elevated our evening and photos. Photographers, please remember to send your photos to the models, including our very own Santa Claus.

Let me write that again: thank you, amazing patrons who contribute with whatever you can to our group’s costs and activities, you make it possible for all of us. I am passionate about keeping the group rolling and I’ll always do my best to provide zero or at least low costs, your generous contributions keep our wheels turning and maybe, just maybe we can even increase our activities in the upcoming year (more on that before the end of this post).

Plan x Practice
The plan was to start around the small market and move towards the Bahnhofstrasse, where we would go along and capture the impressive surroundings bathed by the Christmas decorations and positive vibes. The real impossible mission was to reach the central station area, but that is another chapter for the upcoming season, shall the photographers ever walk fast while photographing 😋.
Impre$$ive Catwalk
Bahnhofstrasse is Zurich’s main downtown street and one of the world’s most expensive and exclusive shopping avenues. This world-renowned shopping boulevard connects Zurich Main Station with Lake Zurich over 1.4 kilometres. You can find everything that your heart desires in Bahnhofstrasse: fashion, art, and Zurich specialties attract local residents as well as visitors. Taking any of those with you requires more than a big heart, you also need a deep pocket (or lots of credit 😋).
Season’s Vibes, 220V
The end-year season in Zurich is marked by the iconic Christmas lights known as “Lucy”, which are switched on at 6pm with Swiss precision, of course. In 2023, the lights were switched on on November 23rd, being appreciated and photographed by thousands of people. These beautiful illuminations adorned the narrow, winding streets all around Bahnhofstrasse, creating a fantastic playground for us photographers and our lovely models. The lights can be interpreted as if they fall from the sky like snow, which was also another highlight from the night: the real fluffy cold flakes made some quick visits that added to an already amazing night. In case you are wondering, lovely Lucy will stay lit until January 6th.
Nicer Together
Our Facebook group is an amazing open forum, let’s use it to share photos and use this great opportunity to check out and comment on each other’s work. It’s free and fun!
That’s NOT all, Folks!
Soon we will have the last round of 2023, our “Glühwein Walk“. This last meeting is not our usual event, it is coming together as a community, having fun together, learning from each other, and most importantly, having a good time and some Glühwein, of course. If you want to bring your inseparable camera, please do so!
Keep them Coming in 2024
As we have been discussing for some time, many of us would like to increase our activities together. From learning photo walks to workshops, model sharing, light painting… pretty much anything and everything related to images, moving or still. Shortly after our last photo walk, I’ll host an online chat and present some of the news that will come into place already in January. Two tips:
- Write to me with your ideas, complaints, requests, and wishes. Maybe we can convert it into a nice group activity?
- Don’t miss it, as this will be a chance to RSVP before the events are announced on the Meetup platform.
